ACRC Chairman YANG Kun attended the "08 IOI Board of Directors" Meeting held in Hong Kong from November 4 to 7 with a courtesy visit to the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau of Singapore and the Independent Commission Against Corruption of Hong Kong. Since the ACRC was launched this February with the consolidation of the three commissions, namely, the Ombudsman of Korea, the Korea Independent Commission against Corruption and the Administrative Appeals Commission under the Prime Minister, it has been successfully regained the IOI membership status and accepted an appointment as a Director and the Regional Vice President.

In the meeting, Chairman YANG actively participated in the discussion and assessment of the IOI"s past work and joined the efforts to make the IOI perform more systematically and substantially. As a Regional Vice President, he presented a proposal for utilizing the IOI grant, CAD 10,000, in order to facilitate information exchange and provide knowledge training for the working level investigators in Asia.

The three day meeting was focused on several pending issues the IOI faces such as the relocation of the IOI Secretariat, revision of IOI By-laws on approving a new membership, preparation of forthcoming IOI Conference in Stockholm, and the effective distribution of the IOI grant to each region.

During the meeting, Chairman YANG met with the other Asian directors, including Mr. Javed Malik, President of the AOA and Mr. Cheong U, Commissioner against Corruption of Macao, and had a discussion on the ways to foster cooperation among the Asian ombudsmen with regard to using the IOI grant and capacity building in general. Furthermore, upon the Chairman"s request, Mr. Malik agreed on approval of the AOA membership to the ACRC.
